Yes, misdemeanors are often thought of as “petty” as if they don’t matter. But they can have life-long consequences, including the creation of a criminal history…and yet, innocent people plead guilty to misdemeanors because the costs of returning to court (lost wage, child care, etc.) can seem to onerous, plus there is no guarantee of a “win” particularly if the main witness is a police officer.
